ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial, called the SNIFF LM trial, is studying the best head positions for children aged 2 to 19 years during airway management procedures. Specifically, it is looking at whether using the "sniffing position" (where the head is slightly elevated) or an even more elevated position, called the "beyond sniffing position," leads to better performance of the laryngeal mask, which is a device used to keep the airway open. The hope is that these positions will reduce air leaks and make it easier to place the laryngeal mask compared to a neutral head position.
To participate, children must be between 2 and 19 years old and require elective airway management using a laryngeal mask. Parents or guardians will need to provide informed consent for their child to join the study. Participants can expect to undergo standard medical procedures while the researchers observe how well the different head positions work. It’s important to note that children with certain medical conditions, such as a difficult airway or cervical spine injuries, will not be eligible for this trial.
