ClinConnect Summary

The Sleep in Psychiatric Care (SIP) trial is studying how to better treat people who have a sleep disorder called Delayed Sleep-Wake Phase Disorder (DSWPD) along with moderate to severe psychiatric illnesses. This condition makes it difficult for individuals to fall asleep and wake up at normal times, which can worsen their mental health. The trial will explore the effects of a group-based treatment that combines psychological and behavioral methods to improve both sleep and psychiatric symptoms.

To participate in this study, individuals must be referred to the sleep school at Bjørgvin DPS psychiatric hospital and meet specific criteria, including having a confirmed diagnosis of DSWPD along with a psychiatric disorder. The trial is open to all genders and is currently recruiting participants aged 65 to 74 and 29 to 219 years. Those who join can expect to take part in a structured program aimed at improving their sleep patterns and mental health, with regular assessments to measure their progress. This research is important because it aims to fill the knowledge gap about how to effectively treat sleep disorders in individuals who also struggle with psychiatric issues.
