ClinConnect Summary
Critically ill patients admitted to the intensive care units (ICUs) frequently require ventilatory support as a life-saving therapy (Modrykamien, 2019). Mechanical ventilation (MV) is required for those patients as their ability to breathe is impaired secondary to trauma, recent surgery, or a medical condition (Zhao et al., 2020). Ventilation is provided via tracheal intubation which can be an entry point and place of bacteria colonization and causes many complications such as ventilator-associated pneumonia (VAP) and oral infections (Anggraeni, Hayati, \&Nur'aeni, 2020).
