ClinConnect Summary
The RESPIRACT 2 trial is studying how the brain's blood flow responds to changes in carbon dioxide levels in patients with chronic kidney disease who are receiving hemodialysis. Researchers want to understand how this response, called Cerebrovascular Reactivity (CVR), might be linked to brain health and cognitive function. By comparing how quickly and effectively blood flows in the brain during hemodialysis, the study aims to find ways to adjust treatment to better protect the brain from stress caused by the dialysis process.
To participate in this trial, you must be at least 18 years old and currently receiving hemodialysis at least three times a week at a facility in London. You should also be able to speak and understand English. Participants will undergo tests to measure their brain's response to carbon dioxide while receiving dialysis, helping researchers gather important information about brain health in people with kidney disease. If you have a history of severe lung disease, strokes, or certain other medical conditions, you may not be eligible to participate. This study is currently recruiting participants, and your involvement could help improve treatments for others in the future.
