ClinConnect Summary

The BEP Supplementation Research in Bangladesh (JiVitA-BEP-IR) is a clinical trial designed to study how different types of nutritional supplements can affect the health of pregnant women and their babies. The main goal is to see if a special supplement that includes energy and protein (called BEP) can help improve birth weight and reduce issues like low birth weight, small-for-gestational age babies, and preterm births, compared to another supplement that contains multiple vitamins and minerals (MMS). The researchers will recruit pregnant women in the early stages of their pregnancy and randomly assign them to different groups: some will receive the BEP supplement daily, while others will get the MMS or a combination based on their weight and health.

To participate in this study, women need to be married, between the ages of 15 and 35, and living in the study area. They also need to be pregnant and agree to take part in the research. Women who are currently pregnant beyond 28 weeks, recently gave birth, or are widowed or divorced will not be included. Participants can expect to receive nutritional support throughout their pregnancy, and the researchers will closely monitor the health of both the mothers and their babies. This study aims to provide valuable information on how nutrition can support healthier pregnancies and better birth outcomes.
