ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is looking at whether using functional electrical stimulation (FES) while cycling can improve cardiovascular fitness more effectively than just cycling alone for patients who have weakness on one side of their body (hemiparesis) after a stroke. The study is currently recruiting participants aged 65 to 74 who have had their first stroke within the last three months to a year and can walk safely. Participants should also be able to understand and follow instructions during the exercises.
If you or a loved one are eligible and decide to join, you can expect to engage in cycling exercises that may be assisted by electrical stimulation to help improve your heart and lung fitness. However, there are some important guidelines: individuals with a history of certain neurological issues, unstable heart conditions, or high muscle stiffness in the legs will not be included. Overall, this trial aims to find new ways to help stroke survivors regain strength and improve their health.
