ClinConnect Summary

The Pediatric Readiness Intervention in Manitoba trial aims to improve emergency care for children by enhancing the way general emergency departments (EDs) in Manitoba are prepared to treat young patients. The main goal is to see how effective new training and support measures can be in raising the readiness scores of these departments, which indicates how well they can care for children in emergencies. The trial will explore which strategies work best to fully implement these new training measures and improve emergency care for kids.

To participate in this trial, general EDs in Manitoba must provide emergency services to children aged 0-18 and have been part of a previous evaluation of their readiness scores conducted between 2019 and 2021. The trial is currently active, but not recruiting new participants, meaning they are not looking for more EDs to join at this time. If an ED is involved, staff members will receive training on the new measures, and a designated team leader will help guide the implementation. This initiative is important because it focuses on ensuring that children receive the best possible emergency care when they need it most.
