ClinConnect Summary

This clinical trial is studying a serious condition known as swimming-induced pulmonary edema (SIPE), which can happen to swimmers during long open water events. The researchers want to learn more about how often SIPE occurs and how it can be detected early using a handheld ultrasound device. This study will include triathletes and open water swimmers who are competing in endurance races. By looking at various factors such as the athletes’ experience, gender, age, and the environment, the trial aims to improve our understanding of this condition and help with its early identification and treatment in the future.

To participate in this trial, athletes must be competing in the event and have completed part of the swimming section. Those who are pregnant, under 18, or who need immediate medical attention won’t be eligible. Participants can expect to undergo a lung ultrasound, which is a safe and quick test that can help spot early signs of pulmonary edema. This research is important as it could lead to better safety measures for athletes and potentially save lives.
