Loneliness Older Adults Acceptance And Committment Therapy Based Intervention

ClinConnect Summary

This clinical trial is looking at a special kind of therapy called Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) to help older adults who feel lonely. The study will focus on older adults living alone in Hong Kong and aims to see if this therapy can reduce their feelings of loneliness and improve their overall well-being. Researchers will also explore how the therapy affects participants' ability to adapt to life's challenges and how they feel about their health. Additionally, the study will gather insights from older adults about their experiences with the therapy and its impact on their loneliness.

To be eligible for this trial, participants must be at least 60 years old, live at home (not in a care facility), and have experienced loneliness for more than a year. They should be able to speak and understand Chinese and score a certain level of loneliness on a screening test. However, those who are currently receiving psychological treatment, have a diagnosed mental illness, or have significant cognitive or communication difficulties will not be able to participate. If eligible, participants can expect to join sessions focused on improving their mental health and will be asked about their feelings and experiences throughout the process.
