ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is looking at how methotrexate, a common medication used to treat conditions like rheumatoid arthritis and psoriasis, can affect the liver over time. Researchers want to find out how often liver fibrosis, which is a thickening or scarring of the liver, happens in patients taking this medication. They will compare patients on methotrexate with those who have similar diseases but are not taking the medication. The study will also evaluate non-invasive tests, like the FibroScan, to see how well they can detect liver fibrosis compared to traditional methods like liver biopsies, which can be risky.
To participate in this trial, you need to be an adult over 18 years old who is currently taking methotrexate for certain rheumatological or dermatological diseases. However, if you have other liver diseases or specific heart or kidney issues, you won't be eligible. If you join the study, you can expect to go through tests that will help researchers understand how methotrexate affects the liver and find safer ways to monitor liver health without invasive procedures. This trial is important because it aims to improve the care and monitoring of patients on methotrexate, particularly in Egypt, where this topic has not been extensively studied.
