ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is studying how training in using inner speech, or verbal mediation, can help children with Developmental Language Disorder (DLD) improve their ability to switch between tasks. Children with DLD often struggle with language and executive function, which includes skills like thinking flexibly and staying focused. The trial will involve children aged 8 to 10, comparing those with DLD to those with typical language development. During the study, half of the children with DLD will receive training that includes verbal mediation, while the other half will not. This will help researchers understand if this type of training can enhance their task-switching abilities.
To be eligible, children must be between 8 and 10 years old, speak English as their main language, and pass a hearing test. Children with DLD must also have specific language scores, while those with typical development need to score higher. Participants can expect to take part in tasks that measure their ability to shift focus, both before and after the training. This study aims to shed light on the connection between language and the ability to manage tasks, which could lead to better support strategies for children with DLD in the future.
