ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is focused on understanding the long-term effects of type 1 diabetes, which begins in childhood, and its most severe complication, end-stage renal disease (when the kidneys stop working). Researchers are studying how this condition affects the physical health, mental well-being, and economic situation of children with diabetes and their families in Sweden. The study uses a large database that includes information from about 23,000 children diagnosed with diabetes and their matched peers without the condition. By analyzing this data, the researchers hope to discover important insights that could help in preventing complications and improving the lives of those affected.
To be part of this study, participants need to be children under 15 years old who have received two prescriptions for insulin, a medication necessary for managing diabetes. The study is currently active but not recruiting new participants. Families involved can expect to contribute to valuable research that might help improve care for future children with type 1 diabetes. This research is backed by a diverse team of experts in different fields, ensuring a thorough investigation into the impacts of childhood diabetes.
