ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is studying a new system that allows patients to screen themselves for diabetic retinopathy, a serious eye condition that can affect people with diabetes. The trial will take place over three months in two types of clinics, involving up to 600 patients in total. Participants will use a do-it-yourself (DIY) screening tool, have a consultation with a doctor, and complete a survey. Three months later, they will receive a follow-up phone call to discuss their experience. The study aims to find out how well this automated screening system works, how accurate it is, and whether it helps people get the care they need.
To participate, you need to be at least 50 years old or 18 years old with diabetes and should not have had an eye exam in the past year. You also need to be able to give your written consent. Unfortunately, if you have certain disabilities that make it hard to use the screening equipment or if you have trouble speaking on the phone, you won’t be able to join. This trial is important as it seeks to make eye screenings easier and more accessible for those at risk of diabetic eye disease.
