ClinConnect Summary
The RiseFast study is exploring how fasting and a plant-based diet might help people with psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis. Researchers want to see how these changes in eating habits affect not just the skin and joint symptoms, but also the gut health of participants. The study includes a week of fasting followed by 11 weeks of eating a plant-based diet. The goal is to find ways to improve symptoms and quality of life for participants, while also gaining insights into how these dietary changes could be a low-cost treatment option with few side effects.
To participate in the RiseFast study, you need to be at least 18 years old and have active plaque psoriasis or psoriatic arthritis. You should also have been on a stable treatment for at least 12 weeks before joining the study. However, pregnant or breastfeeding individuals, those with certain health conditions, or anyone who has been following a vegan diet or fasting recently won't be eligible. If you join, you can expect to engage in assessments about your condition and health throughout the study, helping researchers understand the potential benefits of fasting and a plant-based diet for managing psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis.
